I was lucky to see a Florida Soft-Shell Turtle laying eggs at a local pond in my Hillsborough neighborhood and I was wondering how long does it take to hatch? I want to be there and watch and make sure they get to the pond safely.

I inquired about the same thing not long ago. I was told that the eggs hatch after about 40 days. Other websites that I have looked at say that the eggs hatch after 2-3 months and/or in August or September. I live in Florida, so those months may be extended since we don’t really have winter.

I have never seen the baby turtles emerge from the nests, although I have seen many, many turtles lay the eggs. Any information that you find would be helpful!

We received a soft shell turtle at our wild life rescue location in San Antonio Texas, she layed 2 eggs while in the water container, should we take the eggs out of the water? where should we place the eggs? and hoe do we care for them? I don’t know if they are fertile, is there anyway to tell? Thank you!

I live in Jacksonvill FL and have a Soft Shelled Turtle nesting in my backyard. I saw the turtle out the window from my brother’s room. I will be watching for the turtle and her eggs to hatch everyday. Today is June 28th, 2010. The eggs should hatch around August 18th. I will all keep you posted.

In the same boat as the rest of this group. Just saw Soft Shell laying eggs. Should I put wire mesh on top to keep the racoons out? I’m on Merritt Island, Brevard County. July 5.

Hi, I live in Fort Lauderdale and found a baby soft shell yesterday on my carport. I have 2 ponds in the yard, but man-made and no way for a turtle to get in or out on their own, so I’m not sure where it came from. The closest canal is not far though, maybe 2 blocks. For now I set it in our small pond which has a little island and is safe from everything except birds. It is mostly bamboo palms on it so it can hide easily… the island is only about 4 feet x 4 feet. The water is about 4 feet deep and full of frogs and tadpoles. Any suggestions? Joss
